Hudson Heights Sights
Strictly speaking the neighborhood of Hudson Heights is bounded on the South by J. Hood Wright Park at 175 Street, Broadway to the East, and Fort Tryon Park up top. The name came to be when a group of concerned shareholder residents (Hudson Heights Owners Coalition) decided to differentiate our neck of the woods from the part where all that drug dealing and drive by shooting was going on. Well it took awhile but it worked. And now that there's no more drug crime violence it's even better.

Go down to Overlook Terrace, Bennett Avenue, Broadway, and points East.

  • 815

Service entrance on the (old) Pinehurst stairs.

  • El Malecon

Corner of 175 and Broadway. El Rey del Pollo! Best chicken north of at least 126 Street. Feed a family of four for $10 and have left overs for lunch the next day. World's best maduros.

  • GWB bus depot

Maybe it's not so ugly after all. This intersection can get busy at rush hour. It's best to bypass it via Wadsworth Avenue or St. Nicholas Avenue sometimes (Friday afternoons are bad).

  • GWB Sunset

  • Cabrini Terrace view

View Southwest from Cabrini Terrace. New construction of a condominium next to 350 Cabrini Boulevard. PS 187 is in the foreground.

  • Coupon man

Need a coupon for something? You've come to the right place. Here the Coupon man does business at top of the stairs.

  • GWB bus depot

This building is so ugly that it's getting landmark status. View South from 180th street down Fort Washington avenue.

  • Bridge view

From the top of 181st street. Note the sensitive curve of the building on the left.

  • Mambi Restaurant

El Duque's favorite eatery. Corner Broadway and 177th street. You can also catch the bus to Miami, "La Cubana", here.

  • Pinehurst stairs

These stairs link Pinehurst avenue with 181st street. They are maintained by the Washington Heights Neighborhood Association.

  • 454 Ft Washington Avenue

Ornate figures grace the facade of this building at the intersection of "Ft. Wash" and 181st Street.
